Like many of you we receive the spam emails stating how our site does not rank well in the search engines and how their company can get you top placement. The funniest thing about these SEO spammers is how they find your site in, of all places, on search engines. Typically these emails will state how 75% of businesses like yours don’t rank for their search terms, etc.. The percentage will vary per email as if it is just computer generated.

What really gets me is that they will con people into their services. Most likely the payer will not recieve any benefit from their little con game. So be careful when choosing a “SEO expert” to work on your site.  If this company actually does anything, most likely it will be by means that Google will ban for either now or in the future. Just think – these companies are spamming you to get your business, do you think they care how they treat you when they get your money?

If an SEO company is good at what they do, you should be able to search for a title from their own website on Google and find them at least in the top 10 pages and if they are really good, the top 10 results. SEO companies are all trying to rank using their skills for certain terms related to SEO. Of all areas of search these could be considered the most competitive.

Buyer beware – do your research, ask for some sample results and make sure they give you search terms that get searched for.

SEO contest update

Sulumits Retsambew Update

Search Google for sulumits retsambew and it says it has 25,000 web pages indexed yet it will only show me up to 400. Yes I skipped many pages but page 40 was the last it would show. Not only is it lame to show such a large number but not show them all, but many of the sites towards that end were just as lame…

One site I noticed add a set a links at the bottom of the page – much like a miniature directory page. Another site the content was taking so long to finish loading I left. All I saw there was the navigation and ads…. LAME. Some of these sites are actual attempts at the SEO contest and others appear to just be where someone bought or put a link. I keep thinking that someday Google and the other search engines will eventual weed out this garbage completely – or is that what people call a pipe dream?

Some of the entrants for the “sulumits retsambew” SEO contest chose to use the power of WordPress.com and Web 2.0 to get high ranking for the contest, but now their pages are empty at WordPress. From what I have been told Wordpress has something in the TOS against contests. I didn’t even find the word contest on the TOS, but I did see SPAM. My guess – they see it as spam. Many bloggers have issue with those who do SEO and see all SEO as bad.

What I don’t know is whether Will at www.Netbuilders.org will allow the site to win even if no content is displayed on the page. What do you think? (Please post your thoughts.) My guess is that the banned pages will lose their spots in Google as others build links and content.

Not a lot of change has been happening on the first 2 pages of SERPS with Google, not sure about the pages after that. I have seen more movement on Yahoo.com and Live.com than that of Google.com. I can’t imagine being an “SEO expert” with pages in this contest that are after the 3rd page of results, those “experts” would have to be frustrated.

Since I am talking about “SEO experts” can I rant just a bit? Don’t fall for the line that they will guarantee you top position!! If you are working with a real (by real I mean a competitive search term people actually search for) search term, (you don’t want to rank for sulumits retsambew do you?) then it can take some time and effort to get to the first page of results. The other way they can do this is by a hijacker program. They will ask you to download a program which then allows them to show a website or change the first three results when you are on Google, Yahoo, or MSN. Scams like this have been running for at least 6 years with names like Realname, etc… (DON”T FALL FOR IT.)
